Conshohocken Elementary School third-graders Savannah Murphy and Daniel Martinez are heading into the summer with brand-new bikes, thanks to the generosity of the Conshohocken Borough Police Department and local business owner Chuck Hemcher.

The students were selected by their teachers to receive the bikes because they have consistently demonstrated respect, responsibility, kindness, and other positive qualities that are part of the school’s Coyote Characteristics. Principal Denise Marks told the students who gathered to watch the bike presentation that this is the first time two third-graders from the same classroom have ever been selected - usually the students belong to different grade levels and classrooms.

Conshohocken Police representatives delivered the bikes to the school on June 12 and the students’ families attended to watch the presentation. The bike giveaway is an annual tradition that is part of a partnership between the school and police department, which teaches students about bike safety every year. The pictures below show students trying out bikes and learning how to ride safely. Bikes are donated to the police by Chuck Hemcher, owner of the Great American Pub.

The bike giveaway was followed by the annual kickball game. It was the third-graders versus the teachers - always a fun way to kick off the summer! We wish all of our families a wonderful and safe time away from school, and look forward to welcoming you back on Aug. 31, 2026.
